Having left poverty and hardship behind him, the charity’s founder A Rashid Mirza immigrated to the UK in the 1950’s in search of a more prosperous life. However he always had a dream to one day help those he left behind who were not fortunate enough to escape the grasps of poverty.
Where retirement would normally mean enjoying the free time to relax and not having to work, to A Mirza it was the perfect opportunity to pursue his dream and make it into a reality.
In 2002 Rehmat Foundation was formed with A Mirza donating his personal home in Pakistan to be turned into a free GP clinic that provides free medical assistance for the poor and needy community of Jhelum and surrounding areas.
However the dream was, and still is, much larger than this. The next step was to build a new In Patient Kidney Care Hospital that would provide free treatment and kidney dialysis to those who cannot afford it. The project was launched and although things began very positively donations began drying up and we were still a long way off our fundraising target that was required to buy the land and build the hospital.
With hope dwindling and the fundraising target seeming ever further away, A Rashid Mirza received a phone call from the late Chaudry Mohammed Hussain who was a farmer local to Jhelum. He generously donated 1200 square yards of land to the charity after seeing the good work that was being done at the GP clinic.
Thanks to his generous donation the project was completed and the Rehamat Foundation Kidney Hospital was built in Kala Gujran , Jehlum.
We are very grateful to have been able to help improve the lives of so many people though our work. But the mission is far from complete.
Our dream is to help so many more people who are currently out of our reach. Our current Hospital is the only one of its kind in Pakistan and the only hospital to offer free treatment to the poor and needy within a 186 miles radius.
Our strategy is to use the current centre as a model for to recreate viable, self-funding and effective Dialysis centre and Hospitals that can be reproducible across the developing world. The current centre is close to being exactly that. And we wish to expand across Pakistan and into other countries with your help.
We believe that everyone has the right to have the treatment they need to stay alive, irrespective of their financial situation. It is not acceptable that we leave people to die slow and painful deaths simply because they are poor and unable to afford the required treatment.
With your help we are sure we can make our dream a reality and make the world a better place.
Our greatest accomplishment to date and proudest moment was the construction of the Kidney Care Centre that was opened in 2008 in Jhelum, Pakistan.
It is a fully functioning, purpose built dialysis centre and out patients clinic. It is the only one of its kind in a 168 miles radius that is free for the poor. Patients come for treatment from Jhelum and other local surrounding villages such as Kharian, Dina, Rathian, Sarai Alamgir, Kala Gujran, & Pindhi and many more.
Since opening the hospital has successfully completed over 165000 treatments free of charge for those who cannot afford to pay for their treatment.
Free treatment has also been provided to more than 213689 out-patients since the hospital opened in 2008.
The Facilities and Services available at Rehmat Kidney Care Centre are:

Located in the middle of the busy city of Jhelum , Rehmat Medical Aid established a GP Clinic offering free check-ups and medicine completed free of charge for the poor.
To date over 150, 000 treatments have been provided.
The Clinic contains an in house Pharmacy
Bi-annual Medical Clinics have also been help in the clinic and at other remote locations using Volunteer Doctors and Paramedics, in and around local rural areas surrounding Jhelum, offering;
• Hepatitis Screening
• Polio Vaccinations
• Eye treatment
• Dental treatment
Health Awareness programs for prevention and control of disease are also held quarterly.
Knowing that prevention is better than cure we want to tackle the root cause of many diseases including kidney disease which is lack of access to clean water.
As always we wanted to take a long term sustainable approach towards this issue. We decided that rather than simply digging wells that would act as a short term solution we wanted to create something that would help not only those who are here today but also the future generations to come. Therefore we decided that the best approach would be to create full water filtration plants that are capable of providing 2000 gallons of clean filtered drinking water per hour.
To date 12 filtration plants have been built that are brining clean drinking water to 670000 people that would otherwise be without it. The plants were built in locations that are densely populated and in such places that they are accessible to 30 government schools and 10 other government institutes including DHQ Hospital Jhelum to benefit from them.
The plants are built using the latest American imported membranes and machinery and are designed for longevity.
These water filtration plants have changed the lives of tens of thousands of people in Pakistan. We want to reach so many more people by replicating these plants around Pakistan and in other countries.
